Kitchen Tricks

I know I know, it's hard to follow up our last post with anything that is even mildly exciting, but I'm going to give it a shot. Baking soda and chicken curry is exciting, right?

My pregnancy cravings haven't been too crazy, but yesterday I was craving yellow chicken curry from the Thai Place at 480 Granby Road in South Hadley, MA. If you're looking for good Thai food this place has it. I spent two months in Thailand in college, and the Thai Place is one of THE most authentic restaurants I've come across (minus the fried bugs and animal heads I ate in Thailand - true story). Anyway, I ordered a dinner portion of yellow chicken curry (which comes with white rice on the side). The portion was so big that I was able to split it into four portions! One I ate immediately, the other I packed up for lunch the next day, and the other two I put in freezer bags and popped into the freezer for a later time. When I'm ready to eat them, I will make a side of rice and heat up the curry. $11 for four meals. Brilliant!

That was my first kitchen trick. The other was sort of an unplanned trick.

While I was barbarically eating the curry, I spilled it all over my kitchen table. For some reason, the yellow curry stained my table pretty bad that a sponge would even touch it. Here is the evidence:

I resorted to my baking soda trick and went to town. First, I made a my baking soda paste (baking soda + a few drops of water)

I dabbed it on to all affected areas

I let it sit for a few minutes to soak up the stain

Put some elbow grease into it

And that did it, sort of. The stains didn't come out completely, but I'm not too worried about it. This is a table that I painted, stained, antiquified, and sealed about 5 years ago, so it's about time it gains some character!

So those are a couple kitchen tricks for this Tuesday morning: how to make your take-out last, and how to clean up after yourself if you eat like a pregnant hormonal slob (like me!).
