A while back, I introduced the health and food blog Natural Renewal. Blogger Ana Elisabeth Zeller shares great tips on eating healthy for your body and your mind and her latest adventure into television is no disappointment. During a recent guest spot on a local news station, Ana discusses how to curb those nagging cravings we all get for salty and sweet foods. And guess what? Its not about denial. Hallelujah! One of my favorite parts of her episode was her recipe for natural gatorde. I'm not a big gatorade fan but it is always nice to have a replenishing drink besides water for after a run.
Ana's recipe is pretty simple and tasty:
1/2 a Lemon juiced
1/4 Teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon raw sugar or maple syrup
1 liter water
I tried it recently and really enjoyed it. I've made it several times now and have tweaked it to make a 16 ounce version with a few small tweaks. Here's what I do:
In a large glass, pour in 2 tbsp of lemon juice, 1 tbsp maple syrup, a smidge of sea salt and little bit of hot tap water. The hot water will help everything mix together well and will help the salt dissolve. Fill the rest of the glass with cold water and ice cubes. Stir thoroughly and enjoy!
